Honda Element Single CD Player Won’t Eject CD

Is your CD stuck in your Honda Element? If it is, why are you still using a CD player, 1990 is over buddy. For those that can’t let an old technology go, here is the answer on how to eject it. Let me start by saying Honda charges big bucks for “replacing your stereo” when this happens. When you see how easy it is you’re going to laugh out loud. I will only charge you one kick in the ass. :)

Here’s the the CD player

Here’s the magic.

Super Bowl Prediction 2009 2010

I believe the Colts will win by 10 points or more for the following reasons.
1) I don’t want the Colts to win, so I know they will :)
2) The Saints live off of turnovers, and the Colts won’t provide them.
3) Even if the Saints score often, they won’t be able to keep pace.
4) The Colts offensive line will give Peyton Manning enough time to dissect the defense.
5) The Colts have a great punter and kicker, while the Saints lack experience in the field goal department.

If the Saints win (highly unlikely) this is the only way they do it is through a combo of a few of these.
-Special Teams
- Punting (pinning deep)
– Great field position from punt and kick returns
-Block kicks
-Create special teams turnovers
-Fakes of any sort

-Offensive Trickery or unpredictability.
-Flee Flickers
-Halfback Throws
-Reverses
-Something the Colts haven’t seen yet

The Colts will win if the Saints play their “normal game” on offense and defense. Therefore the Saints need something extra to put them in position to win. Even if the Saints cash in 2 defensive turnovers and 20 + points, they still lose. The Saints need great field position and the Colts to not have great field position. That is done through Special Teams or an unpredictability/trickery with the offense. Remember how the Jets unpredictable strategy really caught the Colts with their pants down in the first half. Mix that with special teams.

Pro Bowl Prediction:
They move it back to Hawaii, because they couldn’t find enough guys to play the game in Miami. The Pro Bowl weekend should be more competition based, like basketball. Field Goal contest, long throw, 40-yard dash, maybe even a Big Man QB competition?

Cell Phones

In my opinion, cell phones will be and are currently a major contributer to health issues/defects in adults and children who use them.
Let me clarify a bit more. Excessive use of, proximity of storage to body, and type of phone will be major factors. Now where’s my proof? I actually have none. But what good is proof when you compare it with my all time favorite “show me the proof” example, smoking. Americans loved their smoking and wouldn’t quit until there was hardcore proof. How many years did that take? How many smokers continued because they didn’t have the excessive proof they felt was necessary? Now I’m not saying cell phones are as bad as smoking. But I am saying they are assembled overseas in countries with very few regulations. What I am saying is that extended time in close proximity to a device that emits that type of heat, transmits multiple signals, and has actually has made my own brain throb from extended use, sends up 2 red flags. Black Berries and iphones share the commonality of big business with tobacco. It’s not in America’s best interest to slow a thriving business down when it generates a considerable amount of money in a terrible economy. Our GDP is bad enough.

My purpose in writing this is to document what I have been saying sicnce 2001. Cell phones are bad news… very bad news.

Seeding Winter Rye Grass in Phoenix

I live in Phoenix, Arizona and am planting my winter grass for the year. I am documenting the steps I have taken to help any other do it your self “Lawn Engineers.” :) The process isn’t that hard, however it does take patients and a little hard work.

As you can see here, my summer bermuda grass is looking like hell because I am killing it off about two weeks before seeding for winter. From my research seeding for winter should be done around the first week of October and probably no later than the third week. If it’s too hot, it will burn, and if it’s too cold at night, it won’t grow properly.

Here is a series of pictures the day I had my lawn seeded (October 13th). I highly recommend paying a service to seed your lawn. I also highly recommend that you have all of your sprinklers in working order before the work is done. If not, your wasting your money.

The lawn service will need to thatch/trim your lawn. It took the crew of three guys about three hours to complete the job. In other words, it would take a do it yourselfer all day. The service runs about $175 (based on lawn size and location). The company I went with is Bims Lawn The owner was knowledgeable, punctual, and an overall good guy. Here are the results:

Water three times a day ( 8am, 12pm, 4pm) for 8 minutes per sprinkler. The ground should always be damp 24/7, but should never be flooded for any long period of time. This watering should be carried out for two weeks. The grass should be fertilized once it has grown in. Here are the results after 1.5 weeks

Here is a spotty part

Here is what it should look like

These are the results as of 3.5 weeks in. Please remember I haven’t even fertilized yet.

This is the seed that was used on my lawn. It is a perennial rye that was over seeded and therefore used no manure to cover it. The idea is that it is more cost effective to over seed than it is to lay manure to insulate. This is a link to the seed used.

My final side note is about using water. My water bill is astronomical in the month of October. It lands somewhere in the $250 range, but is nowhere near that the rest of the winter. The reason I waste this much water is because I am outside daily on it, love to run, and need an extremely soft surface for my bad knees.

How Far Can Palm Trees Be Trimmed On Top (Phoenix, AZ)?

Cutting my palm trees again and hopefully they don’t grown back in less than a month. We will see, right. Sometimes owning a house just isn’t worth it. Today is September, 30th and I had 3 of 6 palms cut back. The purpose in this post is to see if anyone knows how far these trees can actually be cut back. My palm cutter claimed that this is far back as I should cut my palms. He said any further and I risk killing them. At first I thought he was full of shit, but after speaking to a few people it started to make sense. Now I’m simply looking for clarification. Also, does anyone know when palm trees should be cut in Phoenix, AZ? I usually cut mine 2 times a year, but have no specific month that the work is done in. Any advice would help.

November 6th update
After further review, these palm trees have been cut correctly. They shouldn’t be cut back any further than pictured above. So if you need your palms cut in Arizona, show these pictures to you service provider as an example of a very short cut that works.

Alternative to Summer Bermuda Grass in Phx

I was speaking to a few guys who were working on some beautiful summer grass in Scottsdale and they mentioned that it was Turf Grass. It didn’t appear to be very weedy which rocked, and seemed to be somewhat low maintenance. Hmmmmm I found this to be a possibility for my front yard next summer.

Am I actually starting to enjoy yard work??????

Bears vs Packers in just a few words

The Bears and Packers defenses looked great in season opener. I wouldn’t be shocked if there was a dearth of points from opponents this year. Unfortunately, both (yes both) the offenses were not much better than the 2006 Chicago Bear offense. Aaron Rogers appeared rattled and concerned about his next beating from Ogunleye. His receivers were dropping a lot of balls (Nelson and Driver) and he consistently overthrew open guys. Not the same guy as the preseason :)

Jay Cutler looked like he brought out his college-drinking buddies to play WR. Desmond Clark looked lost, Bennett and Knox made rookie mistakes all over the field, and Hester and Olson appeared on point. But they didn’t create the separation that is necessary from your top wideouts. At least it didn’t appear that way. My true belief is Earl Bennett is the number one guy, not Hester. Or at least Cutler made us believe that. All in all Cutler made his mistakes, but I haven’t seen the WR’s make a QB look that bad in recent times. Cutler got embarrassed because guys simply weren’t paying attention.

One play that stood out in my mind as the turning point was the fake punt by the Bears. It swung the momentum in the Packers direction when the Bears were starting to take control of the game. It felt as the Bears let the Packers into a game they were starting to control. You can’t do that on the road.

I actually started to understand why Kyle Orton and Rex Grossman struggled so much over the years with the Bears. Was it pure coincidence that Cutler threw 4 picks in his first outing as a Bear? Or did he miraculously forget how to play QB over the summer? Or maybe it was the ghost of Rex Grossman? Or maybe the Bears need to get a new WR coach or pick up Marvin Harrison? Something is isn’t working right over there, and someone needs to start looking to the coaching staff for answers.

Titans @ Steelers: Why didn’t the Titans just hand the game to them?

I watched the opening game and saw a hard fought battle almost the whole way. Then I saw the Tennessee Titans do something that I despise with about 4 minutes left. They went into this prevent/4 man rush defense that allowed Big Ben about 6-8 seconds to throw on about 6 out of every 8 passing plays. The Titans brought 4 defensive rushers who were completely gassed and abandoned the blitz almost all together. This is the same blitz that kept them in the game. The Steelers offensive line looked like a bunch big brothers pushing around their little brothers near the end.

The Titans won that game in the trenches but got over conservative at the end for some reason and handed the game away. Let me quote Herm Edwards, “You play to win the game.”

I hate the Steelers, but they did look good on defense. However they completely over pursue making them extremely vulnerable to big plays and screens. Kerry Collins took advantage of that quite a few times, but special teams has to take care of business. You can’t miss two field goals.

RGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!
