Is there even a point in watching the Raiders if Jamarcus Russell is playing? The answer is a simple no. I have refused to watch much of the Raider games over the past few seasons because there is simply no point. Watching Jamarcus steer the Raider’s ship is like watching Kathy Geiss run GE on 30 Rock. The funniest thing about this is that the Raiders actually have a pretty stellar team without Russell.
All Pro quarterbacks such as Steve Young and Joe Theismann have simply ripped Russell a new one. My favorite quote came from Theismann, “I can tell you conclusively that JaMarcus Russell never will be able to play QB in the National Football League. He just doesn’t get it.” I don’t think I could sum it up any better myself.
I don’t care how much money you have tied up in him, cut him or have a fire sale. There is nothing to hold on to.

I believe the Colts will win by 10 points or more for the following reasons.
1) I don’t want the Colts to win, so I know they will ![]()
2) The Saints live off of turnovers, and the Colts won’t provide them.
3) Even if the Saints score often, they won’t be able to keep pace.
4) The Colts offensive line will give Peyton Manning enough time to dissect the defense.
5) The Colts have a great punter and kicker, while the Saints lack experience in the field goal department.
If the Saints win (highly unlikely) this is the only way they do it is through a combo of a few of these.
-Special Teams
- Punting (pinning deep)
– Great field position from punt and kick returns
-Block kicks
-Create special teams turnovers
-Fakes of any sort
-Offensive Trickery or unpredictability.
-Flee Flickers
-Halfback Throws
-Reverses
-Something the Colts haven’t seen yet
The Colts will win if the Saints play their “normal game” on offense and defense. Therefore the Saints need something extra to put them in position to win. Even if the Saints cash in 2 defensive turnovers and 20 + points, they still lose. The Saints need great field position and the Colts to not have great field position. That is done through Special Teams or an unpredictability/trickery with the offense. Remember how the Jets unpredictable strategy really caught the Colts with their pants down in the first half. Mix that with special teams.
Pro Bowl Prediction:
They move it back to Hawaii, because they couldn’t find enough guys to play the game in Miami. The Pro Bowl weekend should be more competition based, like basketball. Field Goal contest, long throw, 40-yard dash, maybe even a Big Man QB competition?
The Bears and Packers defenses looked great in season opener. I wouldn’t be shocked if there was a dearth of points from opponents this year. Unfortunately, both (yes both) the offenses were not much better than the 2006 Chicago Bear offense. Aaron Rogers appeared rattled and concerned about his next beating from Ogunleye. His receivers were dropping a lot of balls (Nelson and Driver) and he consistently overthrew open guys. Not the same guy as the preseason
Jay Cutler looked like he brought out his college-drinking buddies to play WR. Desmond Clark looked lost, Bennett and Knox made rookie mistakes all over the field, and Hester and Olson appeared on point. But they didn’t create the separation that is necessary from your top wideouts. At least it didn’t appear that way. My true belief is Earl Bennett is the number one guy, not Hester. Or at least Cutler made us believe that. All in all Cutler made his mistakes, but I haven’t seen the WR’s make a QB look that bad in recent times. Cutler got embarrassed because guys simply weren’t paying attention.
One play that stood out in my mind as the turning point was the fake punt by the Bears. It swung the momentum in the Packers direction when the Bears were starting to take control of the game. It felt as the Bears let the Packers into a game they were starting to control. You can’t do that on the road.
I actually started to understand why Kyle Orton and Rex Grossman struggled so much over the years with the Bears. Was it pure coincidence that Cutler threw 4 picks in his first outing as a Bear? Or did he miraculously forget how to play QB over the summer? Or maybe it was the ghost of Rex Grossman? Or maybe the Bears need to get a new WR coach or pick up Marvin Harrison? Something is isn’t working right over there, and someone needs to start looking to the coaching staff for answers.
I watched the opening game and saw a hard fought battle almost the whole way. Then I saw the Tennessee Titans do something that I despise with about 4 minutes left. They went into this prevent/4 man rush defense that allowed Big Ben about 6-8 seconds to throw on about 6 out of every 8 passing plays. The Titans brought 4 defensive rushers who were completely gassed and abandoned the blitz almost all together. This is the same blitz that kept them in the game. The Steelers offensive line looked like a bunch big brothers pushing around their little brothers near the end.
The Titans won that game in the trenches but got over conservative at the end for some reason and handed the game away. Let me quote Herm Edwards, “You play to win the game.”
I hate the Steelers, but they did look good on defense. However they completely over pursue making them extremely vulnerable to big plays and screens. Kerry Collins took advantage of that quite a few times, but special teams has to take care of business. You can’t miss two field goals.
RGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!
I feel certain that these 4 teams will do well in the 2009-2010 seaon and this why.
Seattle- They have Hasselback coming back this year with a WR/TE crew that looks like they can make some serious noise. Watching these guys in preseason has been impressive to say the least. They also have a slew of RB’s, and smaller, but quick defense. If Hasselback doesn’t get hurt, they are a deadlock for first place. Especially with the homefield advantage.
New Oreleans – Can’t say this very often, the Saints looks extemely explosive on both sides of the ball. They are deep at running back and Brees looks like a top 5 QB again. The defense has been suspect, but in preseason they looked outstanding. When they shit canned the Raiders 45-7, I knew they were on to something. Plus the starters seem to handle the teams they played against. I can’t say they are a guaranteed lock for first place in the division. However they are my suprise pick to win the Super Bowl. Yep, win the Super Bowl.
Green Bay – With Aaron Rodgers running the show, Green Bay’s offense is what JJ would refer to as “dynomite.” I can’t actually believe how many points they’ve racked up in preseason. But I do wonder about how good the defense will actually be. Yes, they’ve switched to a 3:4, but sometimes new systems take time. My guess is Green Bay’s achilles heel is the defense in the end. However, they will make a strong run.
Minnesota – Forget Brett Favre, this team already looked good. Now take away Tavaris Jacksons inability to make plays and put in Brett Favre and you’ve got one heck of a offensive team. Brett Favre took a 4-12 Jets team and almost led them to the playoffs. Now he gets to command the Vikings. Kind of a big difference there. The Jets D in 2008 was okay at best when compared to Minnesota. Also consider that if Brett Favre stinks up the joint, Jackson would be motivated to play well and keep his job.
Minnesota will win the division baring a major injuries.
The Raiders picked up Richard Seymoure from New England in exchange for a first round pick. You ever wonder how New England keeps having first round picks when they finish so well? This is how they do it. They run the old “Stevie Benz” play as it was known in my childhood. Let me explain… Stevie Benz collected baseball cards and was awed by the superstars who’s careers were nearly done. He would trade anything to have these cards. Example: In the early 1990’s I traded a beat up Wade Boggs rookie card to him for about 6 Ken Griffey rookies and a couple Barry Bonds.
Stevie was a moron when it came to trading cards. I believe Al Davis is rooming with Stevie Benz.
If the Raiders had a shot in hell this year, I would compliment this pickup. However, what will Richard Seymoure do for a 6-10 team besides work on his retiremnet plan?
Oh Those Tricky Raiders

So the Oakland Raiders let Jeff Garcia go and I am disgusted again. I really felt like the Raiders were on the right track. The season looked so promising. Let’s see…you have Jamarcus Russell who has proven he can’t play at a high level and is eating up the Raiders money like it’s lunchtime. Then you have a seasoned vet in Garcia who has proven he can win, and who probably demands 1/20 of the money Russell does. I understand that the Raiders need to give Russell the first string oppritunity, but what I don’t get is how they came to the conclusion of letting Garcia go. They now have Russell, Gradkowski and Frye as backups. This might be the worst QB trio in the NFL for the 2009 season.
Garcia might not have been the best thing ever at 40 years old, but he sure looked like a gold nugget compared to Russell. I was truly excited for this season because if things weren’t going well with Russell, we had someone with talent waiting to take his place. Guess the Raiders don’t see it that way.
So I have decided to write down the fact that I think this is the boner move of the century before the season starts. That way if I’m wrong, I can see how silly my words look later. The Raiders are in the easiest division in football with the Kansas Shitty Chiefs, and the Denver “I gave away my Pro Bowl QB” Broncos. Granted the Chargers look great, but both the Broncos and Chiefs don’t. You watch, Denver will make something out of this season because they are smart. The Raiders with all of these number one picks, won’t.
I say the Raiders win 7 games if they are lucky. Anything more than 7 wins and I will be blown away.
Many Raider fans will blame the run defense for their problems, but remember this. Oakland has spent countless top 10 picks on their offense (Gallery, Russell, Bay, and McFadden). If you load up the offense, it should carry your team, right? We shall see.
I just watched the highlights of the New England vs. Washington game and am fairly unimpressed by Campbell again. Let me explain why…
First drive was decent, and he made one amazing throw to Moss. I thought, okay, not bad. But then I realized #28 on defense was making majority of the boner highlights for the Pats. He got lit up.
Second, the score was 17 -7 with 4 minutes to go in the second half. Where was this awesomeness during the rest of the half??
So he hits Joe Cooley, who was so open Uncle Rico could have hit em over them mountains. Cooley ran about 30 more yards down to the 5 yard line. Then on 3rd down (no first or second) Campbell had to run it in. Why? Majority of the time great QB’s get it done on first or second when it’s within the 5.
Then he drove them down for a field goal at the very end of the half. Campbell made a wonderful throw to a RB with 12 seconds left in the half. It seemed like a decent drive.
Summary: New England looks much better on offense then Washington. However, New England DB’s and safety’s look borderline awful.
Bottom Line: Jason Campbell is respectable, but doesn’t win games with consistency. Todd Collins in my opinion has more ball control skills and provides 99% more consistency equating to more wins. Kind of the same reason the 49ers go with Hill over Smith. Also, the last QB to take Washington to the playoffs was Collins. Enough said! Don’t believe my words, look at the history books.
Look at the Washington Redskins 2007’s history. Jason Campbell plays through week 13, and Washington is 5-7 (remember a bye included)
Collins comes in and they finish 9-7 and make the playoffs. They go to Seattle and lose 35-14 in a game where Washington’s O line and WR let the team down.
2008 Washington finishes 8-8 and sits in last place when they gave you 5 games, no consistency. Start 6-2 and finish 8-8, no consistency.
Guess who was on their schedule helping pave the way???? These powerhouse with a combined record of 21 – 75.
Rams
Browns
Lions
Seahawks
Bengals
49ers
Todd Collins says “When Campbell is running the show, it looks a lot better when we’re getting hammered on the sidelines.”
